I'm a little bit excited to say the least.
This is a 2007 Harley Davidson StreetBob.
It's got a 96 Cubic Freedom Units.
That translates to 1,573 CCs (more than most European market cars).
I'm gonna take the bags and backrest off and throw some highway pegs on it right away.
I know that HD isn't the Jalop way but unless you have ridden one I don't want to hear it! They are just too fun, and I'm not defining any stereotypes.

That is an awesome bike. Great dino juice to noise converter as well. Enjoy the road with it!

I haven't ridden before (looking to get into it though)—what is the negative stereotype surrounding Harleys? I know people always badmouth them, but they usually don't actually voice any sort of complaint besides "They suck!"
Full disclosure: my dad rides a Harley whatever-this-is:

Good for you. Enjoy it.
The 96ci is a better package (not because it's 8ci bigger) but because it comes with the improved cam tensioner/follower design the 88ci engines like to destroy.
Plus 6 speed.

I'm not a biker at all, but I think the stereotypes behind all bikers in general is that they're all in gangs, have extremely obnoxiously loud exhausts, and they're aggressive?

In the crowd I used to hang (BMW ADV riders) they (we) made fun of them for riding in such harsh, uncomfortable (they vibrate your nuts off), slow to accelerate and corner and over all, expensive and very ostentatious(ly modified) bikes.
Harley riders seem to be defined as pompous about their bikes, thinking they are the best in the world, while quantifiably there are a lot better bikes from many different brands that can do everything better than the HDs, Harleys are not objective however, they are for the person that wants to (re)capture an era of road riding that has been long gone, the feel and ride of Harleys is unique to Harleys and to a lot of people it is THE only way to ride.

Well that's definitely the biker stereotype amongst the general population, but within subsets of the actual biker community there's a pretty strong negative perceptions of Harley motorcycles in particular. In my limited experience it seems to boil down to those that ride them love them and everybody else hates them. Haven't seen much reasoning either way though so I was hoping to get some perspective on that.

Ok that makes sense. Can you think of any automotive equivalents to further illustrate your point?

Well, as a car enthusiast I compare it to being able to buy whatever your favourite classic car (pre-1960s) but brand new, I think very few people among us would not take that opportunity if we lived in a world where crash ratings don't matter (as in the binking world).
They sort of do the same thing as Triumph and to some extent Royal Enfield and several others, but Harleys would be the equivalent of getting a 69 Mustang brand new (my favourite pre 1970 American) and Triumph would be the equivalent of an Alpine A100 (my favourite Euro), the Mustang is awesome, but already it was a couple of decades behind in suspension and chasis design, Triumph has modernized their bikes a bit and their halo bike is something completely modern (Speed Triple), while HD still sells really old-fashioned bikes.
Also they are very stubborn about modernizing the bikes, think how Porsche is about the rear engine on the 911, but throughout the whole thing, no modern suspension, modern but inadequate brakes for the size, no modern engines (I think the current breed dates back to at least the 80s), they only ever made one watercooled bike and it was a big flop with their customer base, etc.
I don't think a brand in the automotive world is or has ever been this deliverately obtuse about their own products, they could never be because crash ratings and emission standards, but I think you can get the point.

Heh, I haven't ridden anything except a GZ250 and the Royal Enfield I own, but two wheels = cool.

Maybe it's like Alfa Romeo or Lancia. You don't get it, till you own one, and then it's really all you want?

My only complaint would be the seating position. I always feel so relaxed on a cruiser that I think I would prefer to nap. I think the noise from a HD would help with that though.
I do get jealous of the riding position after an hour of riding though.
Enjoy your new ride.

My dad has a '94 Heritage Softail with a ton of performance mods. The thing is freaking mean. I rode it 7 miles once and my hands were tingling from the vibrations, similar to that "I just cut the grass for two hours" jello legs feeling. I said, "It's like I'm riding a Shelby Cobra." It just feels like an incredibly raw experience, like it's just a massive motor bolted to a tube frame with a ton of power. You HAVE to ride one to fully understand. And keep in mind not all Harleys are that visceral. That thing rides like an antique compared to this StreetBob.

Thanks man! I love how relaxing it is. For me, riding is a huge stress reliever. It's a blast when you want to rip on it too, but for the most part I'm an easy rider.
